Gifts That Give Back

How "Gifts That Give Back" Works
(*Trigger Warning)

Working in the nonprofit sector for the past 15 years with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, I have supported and assisted countless adults and children who have experienced trauma. Their personal and individual stories are tattooed on my heart, and I will forever carry them with me.

Why this should matter to you?
"Every 68 seconds, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted, and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only 25 of out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up incarcerated (https://www.rainn.org)."
"1 in 4 women, and 1 in 9 men, experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking (https://ncadv.org)."

We ALL know someone!

During moments when survivors may feel both guarded and vulnerable, when they are weighed down by their past traumas and unable to move forward, but still manage to rise up and carry on each day, it serves as a constant source of inspiration for me to strive towards being the best version of myself as a human being.

At the lowest point of a person's life, a gesture that says,"I see you and you matter," becomes all the more crucial. It can be during some of these lowest moments that one can feel completely and utterly isolated. If one has never experienced this feeling, they should be grateful while recognizing with compassion those that have. If someone has personally experienced it, they know the hollowness that emotion brings, regardless of how long ago it may have occurred. It is a terrible sadness to witness, experience, or even imagine. However, we can reassure survivors that they are not alone, and that we stand WITH them and we shall not rest until they are reminded of this.

Candle and Calm commits for every $50.00 in purchases to give a unique self-care gift box to a survivor or advocate of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault.

These self-care gift boxes will be sent to a different shelter once a month. We will track those places that we have sent a special giveaway for you to check back and see the difference we are making together one gift box at a time.

How can you help?

Visit us at Candle and Calm for all of the unique gifts you may need and tell your friends and family all about us!

We will have a space for you to write a note of encouragement that we will be sure to include with the donated gift to the survivors.
